Review Board Guidelines
Qualifications
- At least three years employment as a professional educator with evidence of exceptional competence that would qualify the individual to make thoughtful professional decisions about the quality of instructional resources.
- A bachelor's degree in the discipline or in related area, such as library/media or administration.
- Familiarity with the Ohio Social Studies Academic Content Standards.
- Evidence of professional involvement beyond the classroom.
- Evidence of exceptional commitment to the profession (e.g., National Board Certification; recognition from local, state, or national organizations; presentations; publications; and/or service on local curriculum or professional development committees).
- Access to Internet and Personal Computer.
Identification and Selection of Review Board Members
- Individuals may be recommended or may volunteer for membership on a Review Board.
- Individuals wanting to participate will be asked to complete the OSSRC Review Board application form.
- The acceptance of a candidate as a Review Board member will be made by the OSSRC Coordinator in consultation with the Policy Board content member.
Expectations
- Review Pre-Selected Instructional Resources
- Review instructional resources assigned by the OSSRC Coordinator.
- Examine all instructional resources/lesson plans for alignment with benchmarks and indicators. Complete all editorial, commentary and submission requirements.
- Use the OSSRC rubric for all reviews.
- Use the OSSRC workflow to retrieve assignments, access rubric, submit completed review, etc.
- Attend Review Board meetings
- Attend all Review Board meetings.
Additional Activities
Targeted Reviews
In the event a targeted review is needed, reviewers will evaluate the resource under the direction of the OSSRC Coordinator. Targeted reviews could include using only portions of the rubric, providing comments supporting selection of specific rubric criteria, aligning resources to the relevant content standards, or addressing the appropriateness of a site for OSSRC collection/referral.
OSSRC Spokesperson
- Advocate for the use of the OSSRC locally.
- Make OSSRC presentations locally or regionally.
- Assist the OSSRC Coordinator at relevant conferences.
- Identification and Recruitment of New Board Members.
- Provide names and contact information for potential review board members.
- Build interest in Review Board service among qualified colleagues.
Term Parameters
- Review Board members initially agree to serve for a defined period of time. Upon completion of the term, members can:
- Opt to continue serving as a Review Board member.
- Resign from the Review Board
- Continue serving on an as needed basis for targeted reviews
- Continue serving on an as needed basis as an OSSRC spokesperson
- Should the Review Board member resign or decide to serve as needed they will be asked to fill their seat by recommending a replacement.
- After an extended period of inactivity, the Review Board member will be contacted to confirm their interest in continuing to serve on the board.
- Review Board Member will receive a stipend plus travel expenses will be reimbursed for participating as an OSSRC Review Board Member.
