Review Board

The Ohio Social Studies Resource Center (OSSRC) is seeking grade 9-12 educators, who have experience teaching social studies, to serve on its 2007 Resource Review Board. Peer-reviewers selected will be expected to attend a one-day training session in Columbus , Ohio on February 16th, 2008. After attending the training session, teachers will be assigned 35 educational resources to be reviewed, which can be accessed and completed via the Internet. The review board will conclude on March 28th, 2008. Selected grades 9-12 review board members will receive a stipend of $800.00 and will be reimbursed for the travel expenses they accrue to attend the one-day training event. The application deadline   for grade 9-12 reviewers is January 5th, 2008.

The OSSRC is also taking applications from educators interested in serving as grade K-8 Review Board Members. Peer Reviewers selected for this review board will be expected to attend a one-day training session in Columbus , Ohio on April 19th, 2008. Educators will then be assigned 25 educational resources to be reviewed, which will be accessed and completed via the Internet. The review board will conclude on June 28th, 2008. Review board members will receive a stipend of $600.00 and will be reimbursed for the travel expenses they accrue to attend the one- day training event. Board members are selected through an application process. The application deadline for to apply to be a grade K-12 reviewer is March 3rd, 2008.

Selection of Review Board Members

  1. Individuals may be recommended or may volunteer for membership on a Review Board.
  2. Individuals wanting to participate will be asked to complete the OSSRC Review Board application form.
  3. Acceptance of a candidate as a Review Board member will be made by the OSSRC Coordinator in consultation with the Content Area Policy Board Member

Minimum Requirements

  • At least three years employment as a professional educator or evidence of exceptional competence that would qualify the individual to make thoughtful professional decisions about the quality of instructional resources.
  • A bachlors degree in the discipline or in related area, such as library/media or administration.
  • Familiarity with the Ohio Social Studies Academic Content Standards.
  • Evidence of professional involvement beyond the classroom.
  • Evidence of exceptional commitment to the profession (e.g., National Board Certification; recognition from local, state, or national organizations; presentations, publications, service on local curriculum or professional development committees).
  • Access to Internet and Personal Computer.
