Ku Klux Klan Cartoon
Description:
This cartoon depicts how white supremacist groups like the Ku Klux Klan and the White League worked to keep freed slaves in politically and economically deprived conditions. The KKK wanted to keep Blacks out of government and prevent them from voting. They used every form of terror, violence, and intimidation to restore a “white man’s government” and redeem the noble “lost cause.” The inscription says "The Union As It Was" and "This Is A White Man's Government."
