Southern Man vs Union/Freedman Cartoon

Description:

These two images are from the Harper's Weekly centerfold entitled "Southern Justice". It shows a corrupt courtroom in which a Southern gentleman slyly talks his way out of trouble; while the Union man and the freedman are executed by hanging. These two images are surrounded by scenes of beatings and other atrocities that were committed against freedmen and those who came south to help them.
