Rufus Putnam Map of Ohio, 1804Description:General Rufus Putnam (1738-1824) created this map of Ohio in 1804, one year after Ohio achieved statehood. He made the map while serving as Surveyor General of the United States. In addition to showing the state line, the boundary between Ohio and American Indian lands, and the location of forts, this map also depicts the towns of Cleveland, Steubenville, Marietta, Gallipolis, Chillicothe, and Cincinnati.
