QuiltDescription:This quilt is a log cabin variation pattern. The large 14-inch log cabin blocks are set on point so that the light and dark portions create the illusion of squares set in rows. These "squares" alternate light and dark across the rows. There are a total of 18 blocks with log-cabin triangle setting blocks along the edge. The 1-inch logs are made of wool scrap fabrics in red, blue, black, beige, and green with patterns of stripes, plaids, checks, and paisleys. The quilt was handed down through the Peter and Christina (Knapp) Huber family of Crawford County, Ohio. It's maker is unknown, but may have been one or more of the daughters of Peter and Christina Huber. Fact or Fiction Description:Quilts contained codes to help slaves on their journey. This quilt is done in the log cabin pattern. Hung on a clothesline or across the front porch, this pattern told slaves that this was a safe house or that they needed to take shelter.
